Why Growlers Are Totally Awesome

Since beer is our life, we sometimes take it for granted that some people don’t know what a growler is. Today, we aim to change that. For those that don’t already know, a growler is a jug-like container specifically designed for the transport of beer. If you haven’t had the pleasure of bringing home a fresh growler full of your favorite craft brew, allow us to indulge you as to why doing so is pretty damn awesome.
DRAFT BEER TO GO
The most obvious reason growlers are awesome is that they allow you to take your preferred frothy beverage from the tap right to your home. This is a great way to help get you from Sunday to Thursday, so you can enjoy some Blood Orange Amber Ale or Double Trunk until the tasting room opens again.
SHARE YOUR BREW
Growlers are much larger than regular beer bottles (ours hold 32 ounces), so if you’re so inclined, you can easily share your beer of choice with friends. Though, we recommend telling that mooch to get his or her own growler so you can enjoy every last drop of that nectar from the beer gods by yourself. But hey, that’s just us.
REUSABLE
Growlers are also pretty stellar since they can be used over and over. Once you’ve polished off your recent stash, you can bring the bottle back to be refilled again. And again. And again. Not only is this economical, but it’s also good for the environment, which means that using growlers actually makes you a better person. Well, sort of. Some tips for keeping your growler clean in between fillings:
- Rinse it as soon as you finish the last drop.
- If it sits for a while before you have it refilled (which we doubt it will), you may want to clean it using a mild detergent. Be sure to rinse it thoroughly to remove all traces (unless you like soapy beer).
- Let it air-dry upside down.
Imagine that. Taking your favorite Dudes’ Brew home with you to enjoy for several days after you visited the tasting room. Sounds pretty awesome, right? What are you waiting for? Come on down and get your craft beer on! And don’t forget to grab your growler. Cheers!
